PUBLIC SPEAKERS ROCK!
During the second term of each year, learners from Gr. 1 to 7 must prepare an English speech according to the CAPS teaching and assessment plan. These speeches are assessed in the respective classes and the best 10 to 12 candidates in each grade are then chosen to participate in the first heat, which takes place at the beginning of Term 3. During this heat, there are two accomplished adjudicators who judge them. The adjudicators make notes for each participant and give feedback so learners can better their efforts. The six best candidates in each grade are then chosen to take part at a gala evening a few weeks later. During this evening, the top six participants compete for a place in the top three. During Term 4, these top candidates are given the opportunity to represent the school at the Interschool Championships which are held at a hosting school in our area.
There are various other competitions where learners can participate, such as the Gauteng Public Speaking League, Radikaal, Super League, and many Eisteddfods.
